The Blue Angels!!

School is pretty much done for the day. There is no way I am going to get them to concentrate while The Blue Angels keep flying over our house!!!

We are going to the Selfridge Air Show on Saturday with Cindy and her family. We were going to be stuck at home all weekend without a car (Christian and Marty are going to Boy Scout camp) and they offered to pick us up. Let me tell you... if you are going to an air show you would be hard pressed to find better people to go with than Cindy's family! Marie and Josh willbe there too, guarding some sort of big jet. Not a bad gig!!

In a few minutes we are leaving to get Ethan's hip quiver, finger thingy, arm guard thingy and arrows for archery. Until then we are enjoying the show!

Co-op and other stuff

We had our co-op open house yesterday. It went really well. We have a wide variety of kids, and a wide variety of classes that are going to be taught. Most importantly, though... all of the kids that are participating are good, well behaved kids that I don't mind my kids hanging out with.

Today is one of Marty's days off, so we are most likely going to hang out at the house (and do laundry!) after school is done. Of course, the boys asked if there was a park day scheduled for today.

Christian has an archery/shooting class tomorrow for Boy Scouts. He is planning to work on his archery badge at summer class, so he has to take a safety class. He is excited because he gets to shoot all kinds of guns, and learn to shoot a bow and arrow. The fact that he has from 7am - 4pm without his brothers probably helps with the enthusiasm.

I have found most of the books I need for Core Alt 6 and Core 100. Once the books we need for the first 6 weeks are here we will start. I wanted to start Alt 6 with Ethan and Alex this Monday, but I somehow managed to lose our Usborne Book of World History, so I had to buy another one.

As for Christian and Core 100... I think that since we have already read the first 2 books of A History of Us I am going to spend the next week or so having him read all of the readers and read-alouds that go with those two books, and then just start where we left off. It's either that or I make the poor kid do the same work over again, and that won't be fun for either of us.

That's about it for now. It is time to get moving! Alex is eagerly awaiting his math assignment. NOT!

The neighbors are moving! The neighbors are moving!

Let's just say I have plenty of reason to celebrate not having that abusive jerk or his pain-in-the-ass children around anymore.

Anyway... they are GONE! Party my house, as soon as the U-Haul truck pulls out!

Interesting article...

Michael Smith, president of the Home School Legal Defense Association recently had this to say:

Conventional wisdom can be fickle. Something is "conventional wisdom" until it is shown to be inaccurate and a new conventional wisdom takes its place. The world is full of examples of assumptions people have made that have turned out to be wrong. Perhaps the most famous is that the Earth is flat. Outdated conventional wisdom also affects the home-school community. Despite decades of proven success and rapidly expanding numbers, many people maintain an outdated view of home-schooling. In other words, they still hold the conventional view that home-school families isolate themselves and do not wish to interact with society. People who hold this view also tend to make the seemingly logical leap that home-schoolers must be poorly socialized.

Warhammer

Today is a day all about the boys. Woke them up at 7:30, started school at 8. They are finishing up school, chores and showers now.

Now the torture begins. At noon we are headed to the park where I will make them stuff themselves with hot dogs. Then, I am making them spend a few hours playing Warhammer with their friends. We will then take said friends and said game to the mall (that is an hour from here) so they can take workshops on building the much needed terrain, painting the microscopic LOTR figures, and then the ultimate punishment... they will have to learn how to "battle," while people that know what they are doing stand around ready to jump in and help at a moments notice. Then I will bring them home and stuff them full of meatball pizza. Am I horrible, or what?

The Lord Of The Rings: Strategy Battle Game

It is almost as bad as Tuesday, when we went with our friends to the mall (that is an hour from here) and learned all about the game, had lunch and bought over-priced army men err, LOTR Warhammer sets.

Not quite as bad as Wednesday when we went to lunch with our friends at dad's restaurant, went to 3 different stores to get the supplies we needed and then went to Marie's house to paint our over-priced army men err, LOTR Warhammer sets.

I am being told I need to hurry or we will be late. The park is 3.2 seconds from our house, so we had better not take any chances.

Have a great day!

And people call me overprotective for homeschooling...
